CMUH Surgery Department Received the 17th National Innovation Award with Their Breakthrough Technology in Microsurgery

The research team of from the Department of Surgery, Plastic & Reconstruction Surgery Section, China Medical University Hospital (CMUH), have been dedicated to the research and innovation in the field of microsurgery reconstruction. They recently developed the “Vascular Cable Flap”, a breakthrough technology that presented the characteristics of tissue engineering reconstruction and served as a new benchmark in plastic surgery reconstructive ladder. This cutting-edge technology “Problem Solving for Amputation Crisis-Vascular Cable Flap” was highly praised by the award committee and received the 17th National Innovation Award.
The leader of the research team, Dr. Hung-Chi Chen, explained that reconstruction surgery consists of a compound of surgical techniques. By operating with surgical microscope, indications including reattachment of limbs, tissue transplant, reconstruction of tumor resection, can all be done by microsurgery. In addition, the key to a successful surgery relies on meticulous pre-operation plan and professional surgery team.
This technology highlights the uniqueness of tissue engineering reconstruction, and attracts many international researchers and medical practitioner to come for technical exchanges. Relevant research has also been published in international journals, it is expected that this breakthrough technology will become a new milestone in the reconstructive ladder of plastic surgery.
