The “2019 Taiwan International Coffee Festival” was held on November 9-17 at Gukeng, Yunlin. The cosmetic brand “Coexist”developed by China Medical University (CMU) Department of Cosmeceutics, participated in the festival with their skin care product: the “Skin Coffee” skin care series. The students not only apply their study to the development and design of cosmetics, but also extended what they’ve learned to the industry market. “Coexist” received high attention and praises from the visitors.

CMU Department of Cosmeceutics is the first laboratory in the world that discovered coffee leaves have the function of anti-skin photoaging and light damage protection. The essence of coffee leaves not only inhibits the degradation of collagen in the skin, but also induces the proliferation of collagen. Through its effect, coffee leaves can delay skin lines, lighten wrinkles, and keep the skin youthful.

“It is commonly known that drinking coffee brings a lot of benefits including refreshing the mind, preventing cardiovascular diseases and dementia, and protecting the liver. We design a series of ‘Skin Coffee’ products including moisturizer, lotion, essence, and facial masks based on the idea of ‘Coffee for the skin that enhances the skin vitality’ ”, said Professor Hsiu-Mei Chiang, Chairman of Department of Cosmeceutics.

“Coexist” is a brand that values simplicity and nature. It cuts down on packaging and reduces complex formula, provides the skin with the most natural and simple ingredients to bring vitality to the skin. The brand aims to create cosmetics that makes customers feel relaxed and thus enhances skin vitality.

CMU Department of Cosmeceutics trains students to become cosmetic professionals in research and development, manufacturing, marketing, management, quality assurance, and safety evaluation. CMU also combines pharmaceutical technology and Chinese medicine to stimulate students’ research interests and ability to develop new products. CMU cultivates cosmetic professionals and enhances students’ competitiveness in the cosmetic industry.
