China Medical University and Hokkaido University Held The 2nd CMU-HU Joint Symposium

On September 3, 2019, China Medical University (CMU) and Hokkaido University (HU) held The 2nd CMU-HU Joint Symposium. Vice Dean Shigetsugu Hatakeyama of College of Medicine, Hokkaido University, led six scholars from Hokkaido University to join the symposium, while eleven professors and doctors from CMU also made presentation on their academic research. CMU President Mien-Chie Hung expects the two universities’ cooperation result in excellent research and teaching fruits in the future.
China Medical University and Hokkaido University became sister schools in 2018. The first joint symposium was held in Hokkaido University last year. This year, CMU held the second joint symposium, the enthusiastic participation of the scholars from both sides showed a strong relationship between the two universities.
When delivering the welcoming remarks, CMU President Mien-Chie Hung encourages CMU and Hokkaido University to establish bilateral cooperation in precision medicine, cell therapy, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing. President Hung also shared his innovative research on the combination therapy of the target therapy and the immune checkpoint treatment. Eleven professord and doctors from CMU (including Vice-President Lu-Hai Wang and Vice-Superintendent Gan-Gowth Chang) gave presentations on their research topics. Moreover, over 90 professors, physicians, post-doctoral researchers, and PhD students attended the symposium.
Vice Dean Shigetsugu Hatakeyama of Hokkaido University Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine, was pleased with the high-quality research and heated discussion in the joint symposium. “Hokkaido University is very supportive of the bilateral cooperation between CMU and Hokkaido University,” said Vice Dean Hatakeyama. “I will make contact with School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy after returning to Hokkaido University. Besides the area that we talked about in this symposium, I hope we can expand the research cooperation. Next year when Hokkaido University hold the third joint symposium, I hope the fields of nuclear medicine and pharmacy can be included.”
The 2nd CMU-HU Joint Symposium is a great success with the efforts of President Mien-Chie Hung, Dean Liang-Yo Yang, and all the committee members. Two universities have formed collaborative research teams in precision medicine, cell therapy, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and cancer stem cell, and will continue to strengthen the cooperation in the above research fields.
